Survey and specific examination of popular music and culture, ranging from classical styles to rock, within an historical and sociological context. The course will examine the meaning and messages of popular music, and its impact on present-day culture. Topics may include The Beatles and Rolling Stones, Rock and Roll, Black Music, jazz, music and media, blues, Sinatra, Broadway and others. Also known as: (formerly Music History and Literature 309)

| Notes: Please note that there will be an orientation session in the Fall 2013 semester to inform of course expectations, trip schedule and course timeline. Students who cannot attend the scheduled orientation will be accommodated. The Field Trip portion to New York City will take place from December 26, 2013- January 7th 2014. There will be assignments due in the Winter semester, with a registrar¿s scheduled final exam in the regular exam time period in April. |
