In-depth study of selected composers, their music, and their relationship to intellectual history (e.g., Mozart and the French Revolution), and/or examination of specific western or non-western musical cultures (e.g., Music in India, Music in post-war Germany) and their impact.
This course may be repeated for credit.

| Notes: This course will explore Mozart's life and music, as well as the cultural context within which he lived and composed his music. This course will explore Mozart's major works through guided listening (students will not need to read music) and examine topics including the life & responsibilities of a late-eighteenth century musician, the idea of a musical genius and wunderkind and Mozart as a performer and improviser. |
