| | | | Outline | | Notes: This course examines the music and career of The Tragically Hip from a critical perspective, using its music, iconography, reception and activism as entry points into the idea of Canadian identity. We will not be concerned with establishing the "greatness" (or lack thereof) of the band, but we will be trying to understand their unique place in the Canadian imaginaire. We will consider song lyrics as poetry, music and its relationship to place and identity, iconography and promotion. We will also consider lead singer Gord Downie's solo projects, particularly the Secret Path project that attempted to bring the story of Indigenous peoples and residential schools. | |

| | Ralph Maier | | Outline | | Notes: A multimedia survey course exploring the music of Led Zeppelin, including an examination of the band¿s history from their pre-Zeppelin beginnings through their rise to superstardom. Discussions will center on an album-by-album survey of the band¿s music and will include detailed analyses of significant works. In addition to providing students with an in-depth look at one of rock¿s most well- known musical icons, this course will assist students in developing a greater appreciation and understanding of the band¿s music and popular music in general. | |

| | | | Outline | | Notes: This course will explore Mozart's life and music, as well as the cultural context within which he lived and composed his music. This course will explore Mozart's major works through guided listening (students will not need to read music) and examine topics including the life & responsibilities of a late-eighteenth century musician, the idea of a musical genius and wunderkind and Mozart as a performer and improviser. | |
