Senior Recital: Simon MacLeod

MacLeod's senior Saxophone Recital will feature works by composers such as Villa-Lobos, Ter Veldhuis, Rossé, Archer, Woods, & Yoshimatsu, and will showcase talented musicians Ami Longhi on piano, August Murphy on flute, and Holly DeCaigny, Lacie Marchand, and Nate Waters on saxophones.

An active performing and teaching artist in the Calgary area, Simon MacLeod studies at the School of Creative and Performing Arts at the University of Calgary, working towards his Bachelor of Music degree. Simon has studied with instructors such as Stephen Lewis, Devon Munro, Dr. Jeremy Brown, and presently Holly DeCaigny. He has traveled across North America for programs such as the North American Saxophone Alliance Conferences and the Eugene Rousseau Saxophone Workshop. These programs have allowed him to perform for artists such as Eugene Rousseau, Julia Nolan, Frederick Hemke, and Jean-Michel Goury. Simon has worked with the Sirocco Saxophone Quartet, Duo Zephyr, and eighth blackbird, as well as as prominent Canadian composers Allan Gordon Bell and Robert Lemay. Simon has been featured on CKUA Radio, Stephen Magazine, CJSW Radio, and Prairie Sounds and he is currently performing with local ensembles Alberta Winds, and the Calgary Wind Symphony.  Simon is passionate about new music for saxophone as well as experimenting with new ideas for collaborative projects with artists in other disciplines, such as dance, theatre, and visual art.
