This event is FREE and open to the public.

A recipient of the 2014 Louise McKinney Scholarship for exceptional academic achievement, August Murphy is a fourth year flute performance major. She studies the flute with Gwen Klassen, and also studies voice with Dr. Patricia Hrynkiw. August has been featured as a soloist in the Vivaldi Concerto in C for two flutes with the University of Calgary Orchestra, and recently performed Italian composer Agostino Di Scipio's Two Pieces of Listening and Surveillance for flute and live electronics for the University's Forms of Sound Festival. She has attended the ARIA International Summer Academy, as well as the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Academy, and has played in masterclass for Lorna Mcghee, Susan Hoeppner and Robert Dick.

In 2013, August was a member of the cast of Aesop’s Fables; the School of Creative and Performing Arts’ inaugural interdisciplinary production, where she participated in an intense seven week creation process with fellow students from the Music, Dance and Theatre programs. In addition to the performance of the canon of classical flute repertoire, August is interested in the study of jazz, improvisatory and contemporary music, as well as interdisciplinary work. August is excited and honoured to have been accepted to study with contemporary flutist Robert Dick in New York City in September 2015.
