Anthony Tan - BMus (Composition) 2006

The Music Undergraduate program at the University of Calgary greatly prepared me for life post-degree. There were many experiences in the program that I would have not gotten anywhere else. For example, I was able to have a reading from the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. This is very rare for an undergraduate program. The piece was subsequently performed by the University of Calgary Orchestra which was also a great experience. The faculty at the University of Calgary was very supportive and proved to be an important aspect of my experience. I was able to work with many different teachers in order to gain multiple perspectives on my craft.

I would recommend the University of Calgary’s Music Undergraduate program if a prospective student wanted close, hand's-on experience in different aspects of music with multiple opportunities that only a smaller music program can offer. You have the opportunity to really direct your own program and be very innovative with what you want to achieve musically.

After his graduation, Anthony moved to Montreal to pursue graduate studies at McGill University. He completed a MMus degree and is almost finished the PhD Program. He currently lives in Berlin, Germany pursuing the path of a composer.
