Welcome to Music

Music at the University of Calgary is home to extraordinary opportunities for learning about music through performance, research and creative activity. Academic preparation is at the heart of our programs, and is translated into performances, publications and compositions that engage both tradition and innovation. The world-class acoustics of the Eckhardt-Gramatté Recital Hall and a focus on the growing realm of digital media offer students and faculty exciting opportunities to hear, create and perform music.

Unique to the University of Calgary experience is the annual RBC Concerto Competition, where Music students are given the opportunity to perform concertos with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, the Graduate Student Conference regularly brings graduate students from across Canada and beyond together for two days of simulating conversation and sharing of research. And our award-winning Jazz Orchestra has received critical acclaim for their performances at festivals in the United States and with visiting artists. Whether it is in ensemble rehearsals, private lessons or academic classrooms, our faculty and staff are dedicated to the students and deeply committed to their success and growth as musicians. We strive for excellence in all our activities and for the creation of a vibrant musical world within our classrooms, halls and our city.

As you explore our new website and learn about our many program offerings, successes, events, faculty members and community partnerships, we hope you are inspired to become engaged as a student, audience member or supporter.
