Simon Macleod

Junior Recital: Simon Macleod, saxophone

Simon currently studies saxophone performance at the School of Creative & Performing Arts within the University of Calgary, working towards his Bachelor of Music degree. He is also working towards his Performer’s ARCT and Grade 10 Saxophone Certificate with the Royal Conservatory of Music, as well as an upcoming debut CD release. Simon has traveled across North America for various workshops such as the North American Saxophone Alliance Conference, Elmhurst Jazz Festival, and Anaheim Music Festival. These have given him the opportunity to perform for artists like Colin Clarke, Mark Hopkins, Robert Lemay, Frederick Hemke, and Jean-Michel Goury. Simon has studied with highly regarded instructors like Stephen Lewis, Richard Harding, Brendan Hagan, and presently Dr. Jeremy Brown, Holly DeCaigny & Mark Michalak. He has been fortunate enough to be able to perform and work with ensembles and artists such as European chamber ensembles, the Sirocco Saxophone Quartet and Duo Zephyr; Grammy award-winning ensemble, Eighth Blackbird; OPUS prize-winning ensemble, Quasar quatuor de saxophones; and Juno award-winner Allan Gordon Bell. He has also been privileged to work alongside organizations like Arts Commons (formerly known as the EPCOR Centre for the Performing Arts), the Canadian Music Centre, and Music & Play Canada. Simon is passionate about new music for saxophone as well as experimenting with new ideas for collaborative projects with artists in other disciplines, such as dance, theatre, and visual art.
