Senior Recital: Jonathan Yeoh

Jonathan’s senior recital will feature works by J.S. Bach, Giovanni Bottesini, Paul Hindemith, and Franz Schubert. The recital will showcase the talents of pianist Kathy Dornian and bassist Cole Morrison.

Classical double bassist Jonathan Yeoh performs throughout Alberta and Toronto and is the Assistant Principal Bass of the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra. Jonathan also holds the position of Section Bass with the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Calgary Opera, and the Banff Centre as well as many other local ensembles. He has toured across the country with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada (NYOC), where he served as the Principal Bass in 2014, and was selected for an Award of Excellence in 2015. With the NYOC, he premiered multiple works by prominent Canadian composers such as Sebastian Hutchings, Jordan Pal, Neal Gripp, James O’Callaghan, Emilie Cecilia LeBel, and Lucas Oickle, with many of these works having been recorded. Jonathan is currently studying Double Bass Performance at the University of Calgary with Charles Garrett. His previous teachers include Sheila Garrett, Lawrence Hurst, Winston Budrow, Jeremy McCoy, and Ed Tait. He has also participated in tine Calgary Pro Musica’s Dick Matthews’ Young Artist Development Program from 2013 to 2015. Jonathan currently performs on an Italian double bass of unknown make from the late 19th century.
