The performance is free and family-friendly. It lasts approximately 30 minutes.

kloetzel&co., with the support of ArtCOP21 and the School of Creative and Performing Arts at the University of Calgary, presents Rooms, a site-adaptive, performance installation.

Rooms is a site-based performance installation that addresses human adaptation in the face of environmental transformation. Through a dance theatre performance that takes place inside constructed ‘rooms’, the work exposes our efforts to adapt to a rapidly changing world. Rooms appears as part of the global climate art festival, ArtCOP21 that is associated with the Paris climate talks. This presentation of Rooms will take place alongside the Global Climate Rally (sponsored by CCAN and Avaaz) at Royal Sunalta Park as well as at Scarboro Church.

Rooms examines the climate change discourse by employing particular individuals to represent the masses of people that will be directly impacted by climate change. It develops from a workshop scenario where community members get together for daily sessions to build both the ‘rooms’ in which they will perform as well as the performance itself, which involves sound, text, and movement.

Rooms is presented by kloetzel&co., a dance theatre company that began in New York City in 1997 and is now based in Calgary. kloetzel&co. has presented site-specific performances, dance films, stage works, and interdisciplinary collaborations across North America, South America, and Europe, and has garnered acclaim from The New York Times, The Village Voice, and Seattle Weekly, among others. Rooms enjoys support from the University of Calgary, Springboard Performance, The Work Room (Scotland), Southside Studios (Scotland), CCAN, and ArtCOP21.
