Junior Recital: Christine Chen

Christine Chen, violin

March 4 at 6:30 p.m.

Free of charge and open to the public

The program will be the Butterfly Lovers Concerto and Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 9 in A major "Kreutzer".

Christine Chen began her violin studies at the age of three and her piano studies at the age of six. She is an alumnus of the Academy program at the Mount Royal Conservatory and the Calgary Youth Orchestra. As a child, she participated in competitions such as Canadian Music Competition and has won awards in the Kiwanis Festival. Her violin studies came to a hiatus after developing a temporary but severe health condition and she took up professional zither and vocal lessons as a result. After recovering four years later in 2013, she picked up violin again growing as an artist and musician. Her return to classical music was highly inspired by Edmond Agopian, who is the professor she currently studies under at the University of Calgary. She is currently pursuing a major in Music Performance as well as a minor in Chinese.
