Grad Recital: Jonathan Gresl

Jonathan Gresl, Bassoon

March 11 at 8:15 p.m.

Free and open to the public

Since a chance encounter with the bassoon in grade seven. Jonathan Gresl has been hooked and committed to spreading the love about this unusual instrument ever since! As a finalist in the 2015 RBC Concerto Competition he performed Gordon Jacob’s bassoon concerto with the Calgary Philharmonic, and also recently appeared as a soloist with the new Calgary Arts Orchestra, in Aura Pon’s "Romp and Repose.” He maintains a busy schedule of performances in the area, serving as principal bassoon for the Alberta Winds and the Symphony of the Kootenays (BC), and also performs regularly with the Red Deer Symphony and other groups.

During his time at UofC he has served as assistant conductor for the Symphonic Band and a member of the Wind Ensemble and orchestra. He continues to teach and give clinics at schools throughout the Calgary area.

This recital will show off the bassoon in a variety of interesting ways. Filled with some very special guest artists, the program will include music by Carl Maria von Weber, Jean Françaix, Francis Poulenc, & Heitor Villa-Lobos.
