March 31 at 6:30 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public.

August Murphy began playing the flute at the age of 13. She studied with April Labine before coming to the University of Calgary, where she is in her third year of the Bachelor of Music program, majoring in flute performance under the tutelage of Gwen Klassen. August has performed as a soloist with the University of Calgary Orchestra, and in the School of Creative and Performing Arts' inaugural interdisciplinary performance of Aesop's Fables. Additionally, she has studied at ARIA International Summer Academy. August strives to incorporate other genres of music and performing arts into her flute playing in her goal to become a versatile and creative performer. Currently, she is a member of the University of Calgary Jazz Orchestra (with which she travelled and competed in the 2013 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow, Idaho, and will do the same at the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival in Chicago, Illinois February 2014). She takes voice lessons with Dr. Patricia Hrynkiw, and is currently enrolled in her first Jazz dance class.
