kloetzel&co began in 1997 as a New York-based modern dance company committed to exploring the idiosyncrasies of the human experience. Since its inception, kloetzel&co has moved between theatre spaces and more unconventional sites, pulling out the movement sources in each unique context. As a company devoted to character investigation as well as pure movement enquiry, kloetzel&co attempts to discover the humor, pain, and frustration associated with places, people and states of being. As a traveling projects company since 2001, kloetzel&co has enjoyed multiple configurations, connecting to each place and community in which it appears. kloetzel&co is particularly dedicated to artistic collaboration and attempts to foster creative experiments with writers, filmmakers, and musicians in each place along its choreographic journey. Highly devoted to local communities and artists, kloetzel&co often offers free performances at outdoor venues and/or workshops to facilitate communication regarding what it means to live a create on a local, national and global level. Come join the journey!

The SURGE Company is a program which provides a challenging dance experience that inspires excellence while providing a focus on training, self-exploration, and choreographic endeavors in a dance company setting. The program is designed for hard working, self -motivated young artists, from 18-21 who are interested in dance as a creative art form. Dancers in the program attend 9 hours per week of contemporary dance training and rehearsals, with special classes in creative process, repertory, and other dance forms such as Jazz and African. Performance and informal showings provide opportunities to work alongside some of Calgary’s leading dance professionals, which help to round out a young performer’s training.
This program creates 4 paid apprenticeship positions for dancers who are nearing a professional level. The program strives to provide them with a ladder into the professional world by offering them challenges in the rehearsal process and opportunities to develop as performers. The Program is by invitation only. Interested dancers should contact the Artistic Director at email@example.com
